Amand Garnet Ruffo
Fireflies
Evening crowned,
a headdress of light
in the tall grass beside the bridge
flitting above and through us.
Knowing full well an explanation exists
and nothing lasts.
Thoroughly amazed.
In reckless childhood abandon
hands cupped
to hold this magic,
wear this necessary
joy.
I have never lived through an earthquake. But I found this poem instructive.
